How to Know When Your Clubs Need Regripped (and Why It Matters)

Golfers often focus on swing changes, equipment upgrades, and new drivers, but one of the most overlooked performance factors is something simple: your grips.

Even the best swing won’t perform well with slick, hard, or worn-out grips.

Here’s how to know when it’s time to regrip your clubs

1. Your grips feel slippery

If you’re losing traction or feel like you need to squeeze harder to hold on, your grips are probably worn out.

Slick grips cause:

  • tighter grip pressure

  • poor tempo

  • loss of control

  • less consistent ball flight

2. Your hands feel tired after a round

Most golfers don’t realize this is a grip problem. Instead of relaxing your hands, you’re over-gripping to keep the club stable. Over a full round, that adds up. Imagine gripping your steering wheel as tightly as possible during your entire ride home. Ouch!

3. You see cracks, shiny spots, or smoothness

Visual wear matters. Look for:

  • shiny areas

  • small cracks

  • worn texture

  • smooth patterns

  • your hands or glove are turning black

If the grip surface looks polished, it’s definitely time.

4. Your shots start going left or right

This one surprises people. Worn grips change how the club face returns to the ball.

Suddenly the club feels different in your hand—and your swing compensates without you realizing it.

5. It’s been a year or more

Most golfers should regrip:

  • once a year

  • OR every 50 rounds

  • OR more often if you play in humidity, sweat a lot, or store clubs in your car. By the way, we recommend NOT storing your clubs in your car when it is hot!

Humidity, heat, and time all break down the rubber.

A fresh regrip improves:

  • distance control

  • accuracy

  • comfort

  • grip pressure

  • confidence

  • consistency

Honestly, it often feels like brand-new clubs.

How long does regripping take?

We can do your grips within 24-48 hours and often faster depending on how busy we are. Need them the same day? We can probably make that work!

How much does regripping cost?

It depends on the specific grip brand & style, but most golfers are surprised how affordable it is compared to club replacements. You can find the grips we carry in stock here, or you can bring us your own. If you have a type of grip you are interested in that we do not keep in stock, we can also order them for you. If you are unsure, we can always regrip one club and you can go hit some balls with it before committing to the full set.

What we recommend

If one or more of these apply:

-slipping

-shiny

-cracking

-feels slick

-over a year old

-More than 50 rounds played between regrips

…it’s definitely time to refresh them.
